Appointments Are Required For The Following Services:

Women’s Health Clinic

A team of female Doctors supported by a Nurse and Midwife, address issues of female reproductive health and antenatal care. Services include cervical screening, breast checks, contraception and more.

Well Women’s Checks

A free service provided by our Practice Nurse that includes general wellbeing discussions, blood pressure checks, contraceptive options, routine cervical screens (previously called pap smears), unplanned pregnancy advice, weight and lifestyle advice.

Dietitian Service

Dietary advice provided by an Accredited Practicing Dietitian. Information, healthy eating plans, solutions and advice on; diabetes, having a healthy heart, weight and cholesterol, blood pressure, and nutrition.

Clinical Psychologist

Psychological therapy and counselling provided by trained clinical psychologists with a wealth of experience and knowledge in the transcultural mental health field. Mental Health Care Plan from GP required.

Pregnancy & Perinatal Support Services

Pregnancy, childbirth, & perinatal support and education, provided by a Midwife and female Doctor.

Services include:

  • shared care support from Ishar and your hospital throughout your pregnancy
  • health information explaining pregnancy, diet, giving birth, pain relief, breastfeeding and early parenting
  • individual consultations
  • home visit after your baby is born
Appointments are NOT required for the following services:

Family Support Program

An intergenerational women’s group meeting for activities, and information on family wellbeing, settlement, relationships, parenting, welfare issues, and skills development.

Neighbourhood Mother’s Program

  • A mother’s weekly support group for women who arrived in Australia in the past 10 years, who have children up to 12 years old. The women participate in weekly skills development activities, as well as information and workshops on parenting, relationships, family wellbeing, welfare and health.
  • Childcare providing Rhyme Time and early childhood activities for non-school aged children.
  • Home visitation for social support and connection, for socially isolated mothers with children up to 2 years old. Eligibility will be assessed by Ishar staff member.
  • English classes

Location: Herb Graham Recreation Centre, 28 Ashbury Crescent, Mirrabooka. Room MMC1.

‘Fun Being a Mum’ New Mother’s Group

A support group for new mother’s of babies aged 0-12 months. The groups provide friendship, support, activities, and information about parenting and self-care.

Carer Support Services

A range of free holistic services provided to unpaid carers of someone living with mental health issues, physical disability, and/or intellectual disability. The program is open to male and female carers aged 18 or older, from all cultural backgrounds throughout the metropolitan area.

These services encourage the engagement and social participation of carers, connecting them with the wider community, and providing a hub for ongoing support and education.

Services include:

  • group sessions in Mirrabooka and Bentley
  • home visiting
  • outings
  • events
  • workshops
  • social activities
  • health and wellbeing information sessions
  • support and referral to service providers
  • individual support and advocacy

Settlement, Engagement and Transition  Support ( SETS)

Assistance with settlement issues for newly arrived humanitarian refugees living in Australia for less than 5 years, including:

  • Housing
  • Education, Training, Employment
  • Settlement, Citizenship Information
  • Financial Planning
  • Centrelink Services
  • Managing Relationships in Australia
  • Domestic Violence Support

Domestic Violence Support Program

Free services for women who are experiencing, or have experienced domestic violence.

Therapeutic groups and individual client support available to empower women to:

  • understand domestic violence through education
  • become aware of the services and supports available
  • find a pathway to healing through art and narrative therapy
  • increase self-worth and self-awareness through self-esteem exercises
  • re-discover their courage and voice
  • Learn about inner peace and balance
  • receive support through their journey

Health Education / Promotion

Ishar actively promotes the health and wellbeing of women in the following ways:

  • Implementation of programs for specific cultural communities which aim to enhance health awareness and health behaviours
  • Integration of health education into all programs offered by Ishar
  • Promotion of health related information through in-house and/or community displays
  • Participation in community cultural events to promote women’s health issues
  • Partnership with other organisations in implementing one-day seminars or workshops for community women and/or health professionals
  • Provision of cross cultural awareness information sessions to health professionals

Exercise and Yoga Classes  

On-site and telephone interpreting services are available on request.

Free crèche facilities and light refreshments are provided for many of Ishar’s programs.
