“Settling In”, funded by Lotterywest, provided a theatrical interpretation of the experiences and feelings of migrant women as they settle into a new land. This project aimed to provide CaLD women with a chance to share their cultures and experiences migrating to Australia, as well as a creative outlet. The dance was created collaboratively by the women, through a series of weekly drama workshops held at Ishar. The stories, dances, words, and songs of these women accumulated into a performance given at Ishar's 21st-anniversary celebration. The dance reflected common hopes and dreams among women migrating to Australia. The women shared their cultural experiences in the Australian community, remembered their interpretations of Australian colloquialisms, and told stories of the generosity, support, and hospitality of Australian people. Ultimately, the project gave the women a chance to share their experiences with new friends and developed their confidence.
