Community Education Services

Empowering Health and Wellbeing

At Ishar, we are committed to empowering our diverse community with essential knowledge and promoting a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. Our Community Education teams deliver impactful talks through external service providers and language schools, focusing on three crucial areas: health and wellbeing, mental health, and respectful relationships.

Health in My Language - Bridging the Gap for Migrant and Refugee Women

Our bilingual health educators are vital in providing immigrant and refugee women with a safe space to discuss and make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.

Bilingual education goes beyond mere translation; it embraces cultural nuances and draws on educators' experiences, creating a meaningful exchange of concepts with no English equivalent.

Our women's health topics cover a wide range of subjects, including, but not limited to Healthy Relationships, Mental Health, Understanding the Menstrual Cycle, Healthy Bones, Iron Deficiency, Menopause, Perinatal Mental Health, Having a Baby in Australia, Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness, Bowel Cancer Awareness, COVID-19 and Influenza.

To book a health education session with our skilled Bilingual Health Educators, contact Ishar today.

Healthy Foods, Healthy Cultures - Nourishing Bodies and Minds

Healthy Foods, Healthy Cultures seeks to enhance the health outcomes of newly arrived refugees, migrants by bolstering nutritional health literacy and reducing food insecurity. We aim to promote healthy eating, prevent chronic diseases, and enhance overall well-being by;

  1. Delivering nutrition education that is dietitian-led or co-facilitated with the HIML team

  2. Developing resources and workshops that use cultural food examples as well as supporting how to choose, prepare and safely store nutritious food in the Australian food system

  3. Providing culturally responsive service provider training and contributing to needs analysis in the food and nutrition space.

At Ishar, we believe in nurturing the mind, body, and soul through our enriching Community Education services. Join us in creating a healthier, happier, and more united community.

Free from Family and Domestic Violence

Taking a Proactive Stand Against FDV

Domestic violence, tragically, remains the leading preventable cause of death, disability, and illness in women aged 15-44. At Ishar, we are resolute in implementing a preventative approach to tackle this pressing issue. We provide community education and culturally responsive service provider training to ensure all women have access to the support they need.

Empowering through Knowledge and Understanding

Our workshops in schools, women's groups, community leaders, and various community groups serve as powerful vehicles for change. These sessions focus on promoting respect and healthy relationships and illuminating the insidious nature of FDV.

Culturally Appropriate Support for CaLD Survivors - Service Provider Training

Breaking down barriers and fostering inclusivity, our program expands the support services available to culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) survivors of FDV. By delivering culturally appropriate FDV training for both the CaLD and FDV service sectors, we aim to build a more culturally responsive care network.

Together, We Can Break the Chains of FDV

At Ishar, we believe in a future free from fear and violence. Join us as we pave the way for a safer, more equitable community. Our Free from Family and Domestic Violence program is a beacon of hope for our community.

Developed in partnership with a dynamic consortium, including Ishar (as the lead agency), Ethnic Communities Council of WA, Multicultural Services Centre, Metropolitan Migrant Resource Centre, and Orana House - Women's Refuge and Crisis Services, this initiative embodies a collaborative effort to combat domestic violence.
